Suggestion for a lazy Friday at the office:Â Log onto www.usapl.org and follow along with Rockford’s Brad Benjamin as he continues his quest towards a spot in the 2010 Masters.
Benjamin made quick work of Texas’ Sang Yi in Friday morning’s quarterfinal match, defeating Yi 5 and 3 (For those not familiar with match play, that means Benjamin was up by 5 holes with only 3 to play, making it impossible for Yi to win).
Benjamin tees off in the semifinals at 12:45p.m. and will either play #63 seed Brandon Crick, or #58 seed Eddie Olson. Benjamin told me on the phone last night that seeds don’t matter, but keep in mind he entered match play as the #6 seed and will likely be the favorite no matter who wins between Crick and Olson.
A friend following Benjamin just pointed out another reason why he is probably the favorite for his final four match: In his five matches thus far, Brad hasn’t made anything worse than a bogey. He’s playing consistent and making a ton of pars. That usually spells good things when you’re playing an opponent heads up.
I’ve got the day off so Jude Wilbers is in the driver’s seat. If you don’t follow Benjamin online, be sure to check in with Jude at 5, 6, and 10 for updates.
A win for Benjamin this afternoon and it’s a 36-hole match for a trip to Augusta, and time for me to apply for some media credentials.
