Time flies, I can’t believe Kam is 4 months old already! We just had his check-up this week and everything’s going well with him. The doctor always asks us if we’re doing “tummy-time”, and we try, we really really do, but Kam isn’t a big fan. He’ll only last a few minutes, then he gets frustrated and starts crying. 
The doctor told us to keep working on it with him, because eventually he’ll get mad enough to roll over. Should I be worried that he hasn’t done that yet? I’m starting to become obsessive about it. He makes no effort to roll from his back to his stomach. In fact, he LOVES being on his back and is usually a super happy baby when he’s laying down. When we put him on his stomach, he moves around a lot, but doesn’t push with his arms to try to roll. Any tips to make this happen?
The doctor also told us we could start feeding Kam rice cereal a couple of times a day if we want to. I was pretty surprised, becasue most of what I’ve read says babies under 6 months shouldn’t be given anything but breastmilk or formula. So I guess I could use some advice with this one too. How do we go about doing that? And how much? Is the purpose to teach him how to swallow and eat from a spoon now, so he’ll be ready when he turns 6 months? Other than that, he’s in the 50th percentile for height and 75th for weight(chunker:)! 
The doctor says he’ll likely level off on weight now, becuase he’ll be getting more active. But check out those cheeks!! I can’t stop kissing them! I love hearing him try to talk and laugh! He’s really getting a personality now.

Don’t worry about the rolling over. He will get it when he is ready. My grandson is 7 months ad has only rolled over a few times. He might be crawling before he wants to roll over.
After having 3 children and 5 grandchildren. They all have rolled over, crawled and waled at there wn pace. My 13 month old grandson is nt walking yet but I assured my daughter that he will not Carl into kindergarten:). Enjoy him being a baby!
He will roll when he is ready. Just keep putting him on his stomach, he will figure it out soon. As far as food goes. Give him some. I fed you when you were 1 month. Rice cereal. You loved it.
My son hated tummy time too. The strength will come and then he will be rolling all over your house! Don’t worry. We started rice cereal at 4 months too. Start out with it soupy and gradually make it thicker as he gets older/tolerates it. My highchair had a few different settings so I reclined it slightly to make it easier for him to sit there. The shocked/disgusted face he made the first time he tried it was hilarious. So make sure to have your camera ready!
I agree with the cereal at this point. It’s nice to see some of the doctors are backing off on the 6 month time frame for breast and bottle feeding.Babies are little “people”; my guess is Kam will enjoy the cereal! As far as the rolling over, it will come too
I disagree with the cereal recommendation. My Dr. and all the books recommended waiting until 6 months. Some books recommend waiting even longer because babies really only need breast milk–look how cute and chunky he is on just milk! Rolling over will come soon, too. Naturally, it’s easier for me to feel this way since my little one is 2 years old! Have fun with your Kam. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog the last several months!
My children both hated tummy time, it’s okay. He’ll do it when he’s ready. My son actually rolled from back to front first. Try placing some favorite toys or yourself on the floor just out of reach. As for the cereal my daughter ate tons of it at 4months old and has no allergies and is perfectly normal. My son wouldn’t eat much at all at 4months to the point where at 6months, the doctor said start him on baby food and he liked that. I would say try the cereal and see how he reacts and I know this is hard with your first child, but please don’t worry- he’ll turn out just fine whether you choose to feed him the cereal or not. And, thanks so much for the baby blog, it’s nice knowing everyone has the same issues and worries raising children!
Hi, Katie! I have four girls, two singles, and then twins. I have found that cereal whenever they’re ready is good. I know my sister got cereal at 1 month because she was hungry and considered a bigger baby (at 7 lbs!) Now we are told to wait. He will be fine either way. If you do decide to try the cereal, mix it with breast milk, so that the taste is somewhat familiar. Also, be ready for him to spit it out – babies don’t know how not to yet. It will take a while ’til he gets the hang of it! Good luck!
