Thursday January 31, 2012 – I know, I know! Been a long time since I added any photos to our album Today, I’ve uploaded six that I’ve just gotten in the past few weeks. Kristina Redington emailed me a great shot of a bald eagle on a patch of ice near Utica, Illinois. Lynn Butler got a great photo of her horse galloping through the snow. Sue Stefanowicz uploaded a great photo of a “farmer’s sunset” after a light snowfall. Katie Nilsson’s favorite is Kathy Richards’ addition of a snowcovered brook. The weather nerd in me really enjoys Jennifer Walker’s photo of a frozen, foggy Pierce Lake on our 62 degree day this week, followed by a vacation pic from the Florida Keys. Thanks everybody!
Friday November 16, 2012 – Jeff Bolen uploaded a fantastic picture of today’s sunrise over Polo, Illinois. Beautiful reds! -Eric

Lots of green, pink, and orange hues were visibile just before the clouds moved in. Bill Rosemeier snapped a great photo from northern Stephenson County. Shad Van Matre took an excellent photo just north of Pecatonica! Thank you both! -Joe
Thursday November 1, 2012 – Rita Reeder said she takes a walk by the same tree and today had to stop and take a picture. It sure does look cold in her photo, even though temperatures topped out around 57 this afternoon! -Eric
Thursday October 4, 2012 – Today was a really great day for us here! We added two spectacular Hot Shots to our album. Jenn Walker took a picture from Rock Cut State Park of a boardwalk and limestone boulder. John Bullock’s photo of Chief Blackhawk with reflecting trees went viral on Facebook after we posted it this afternoon! Keep these coming everybody! Let’s show everybody how wonderful Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin is. -Eric
Monday October 1, 2012 – Welcome to October! Over the weekend, we got five fantastic photos that I needed to add to the album. First, is one from Jim Lawson of a great scene with leaves floating on the water. Ron Cain shot the Harvest Moon on Saturday behind a set of leaves. Awesome use of that light! Sandra Linquist was at Baumann Park in Cherry Valley and got a colorful set of trees in the bright sun. Rita Reeder took a shot of the corn in the foreground with a hazy Harvest Moon in the background. And finally, Craig Adamson uploaded a fantastic shot of the Jefferson Street Bridge to our Facebook page. Keep those Hot Shots coming! -Eric
Friday September 28, 2012 – Absolutely stunning shots of the Rock River and Downtown Rockford from Katherine Kirwan! Brandon Larson also becomes a Hot Shot with a wonderful, brightly colored tree. And lastly today Woody Mott, shared a few shots of nice, fall color in the Oregon area today. Chief Blackhawk stands among some brilliant yellow leaves and a great maple tree turning red. Don’t forget you can share your great photos anytime! Just send to weather@wrex.com. -Eric
Thursday September 13, 2012 – Ron Cain uploaded a great shot of a bluff and pool of water, taken at White Pines State Park. And tonight’s welcomed rain moved out just in time for a great sunset. We received quite a few pictures. Jenna Springer’s sunset and corn photo takes the cake! Great work! -Eric
Wednesday August 15, 2012 – Congrats to Amanda Vielma as our newest Hot Shot! She got a great shot of a yellow monarch caterpillar and a set of dead trees. Great job!
Friday July 6, 2012 – Erin Klaren of Rockford got two wonderful photos from a tornadic storm on Pelican Lake in Northern Wisconsin. One shows her friend Tracy pointing toward the rotating wall cloud. The other is a shot of lightning reflecting on the water. Good shots!!! -ES
Thursday May 31, 2012 – Woody Mott of Oregon has sent us some great photos and this one is no exception. Today we received the second biggest rainfall of the year and the chilly rain on top of the warm Rock River water caused a lot of steam to form around the Oregon Dam. As always, thanks Woody! -ES
Sunday May 20, 2012 – The sky cleared out just enough for Susan Ranahan & Woody Mott to catch beautiful photos of a partial solar eclipse. Both of these pictures were taken in Ogle County. Thank you both for such amazing pictures! -JA
Friday February 24, 2012 - On what could be the last significant snowfall of the 2011/2012 winter season, we’ve received so many excellent photos! It was hard to choose just a few, but here they are! A couple of photos sent in from Jenn Walker show scenes from Rock Cut State Park and near Roscoe. Elwood Mott sent us a picture of hoar frost that gathered on an old milkweed plant. Tina Maavich even found a squirrel just hanging out in a tree trunk! And my favorite photo of the batch was sent in from Mary Bonavia with a scene along White Oak Avenue in Rockford. Thanks, everyone! -JA
Friday January 6, 2012 – Got some great shots today! Ron Cain got a great close up of a bald eagle and Elwood Mott and Megan Huels were over the Rock River today observing the beautiful reflections.
Thursday January 5, 2012 – Drew Warner uploaded a gorgeous sunset picture taken from Monroe Center. Wonderful shot, Drew! -ES
Wednesday December 14, 2011 – Even though it’s gloomy, check out the latest additions from Rita Reeder and Richard Cushing. Rita got this double rainbow while on a vacation in Antigua. Richard passed along the photo from Hawaii. Thanks guys! -ES
Wednesday December 7, 2011 – I’m still scratching my head with the two latest entries to our Hot Shot album. Kelly Largent, Andrew Leden, and Randy McClung sent in these shots of a circular contrail cloud over Winnebago County this afternoon. The logical explanation to this is a plane in a tight holding pattern within about 7,500 or 8,000 feet (where the cloud deck was at the time). The heat from the jet engines condenses the ice crystals in the air to form a contrail. Our General Manager, John Chadwick, witnessed the plane that was causing it around 3pm. This means it could’ve been a “skywriter” in a plane doing some maneuvers. Very interesting indeed. -ES
Tuesday December 6, 2011 – We’re still waiting for our first snowfall. However, it doesn’t take much wintry weather to make a few Hot Shots! I just added three stellar shots from Ron Cain of a few close-ups of some icy tree branches and a beautiful December sunset. Thanks Ron. You’re pulling ahead of all the rest! -ES
Thursday December 1, 2011 – I haven’t added any Hot Shots lately. Perhaps everyone is keeping the cameras inside until the first snowfall! I did upload a great photo of a fall sunset from Elwood Mott. The pink clouds are gorgeous. Ron Cain went above and beyond once again with a great close-up of the moon and a close up of a beautiful cardinal. Great work guys!
Sunday November 13, 2011 – I hope that’s not a vampire bat! Woody Mott sent in a close-up of a bat today! It’s a little late in the season but there must be bugs for this guy to eat on this 60 degree November day. Thanks for sharing! -ES
Wednesday November 9, 2011 – An odd weather day today! We started with rain this morning and saw our first snow in the afternoon! I added three photos from Kate Nelson who got some great shots of snow on a rose, snow on a bush, and a clump of very wet snow on the grass. Great stuff, Kate! -ES
