March 4th through the 10th is Severe Weather Preparedness Week for the State of Illinois. We urge everyone to make sure you are ready for severe weather by having a safety plan and a severe weather kit. 2011 was a heartbreaking year when talking about tornadoes. More than 1700 tornadoes claimed 550 lives. The average number of tornadoes for the month of March is 87. We’ve already seen 95. This is why you cannot wait and should prepare now. Tomorrow is the first Tuesday of the month, which means the tornado sirens will sound at 10AM for their monthly testing. However, tomorrow’s drill will be statewide. A fake tornado warning will be issued causing alarms to go off on weather radios and TV stations. This would be an excellent time to go over your severe weather plan at schools and businesses.
