Today we have the first glimpse at what was responsible for the light show that was seen in at least six states Wednesday night.
WKOW-TV spoke to University of Wisconsin researchers who got a chance to observe the meteorite. They are not allowed to say where it was found, but they did say it is the first one they have ever witnessed in 28 years of work on the campus.
The person who found the rock did not want to be named and also only loaned it to the UW researchers for an hour.
On Wednesday evening just after 10:00 p.m. people in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri saw the large fireball shoot across the sky. The FAA has confirmed it was a meteor and it was captured on video by a television station in Milwaukee, a police officer in Portage, Wisconsin and a police officer in Elma, Iowa.

I saw the meteor that flashed across the sky Wednesday evening. I was driving east toward Maquoketa, Ia. when the inside of my pickup lit up with an erie green glow. I thought something was happening inside of my truck. Then I noticed that the sky was lit up with this glow. Then I say it. It was bright red and white at the center and this green glow lit up the whole sky. It was spectacular.
I was sitting outside on my break and then all of a sudden it was like the police shined a spotlight on me. When I looked up I seen it. It seemed like a ball of fire flying in slow motion. It was beautiful and very bright. Very spectacular and i’m very glad I got the opportunity to be one of the few to see it.
