60 degree weather in our future?

60 degree weather may not be too far off in our future as overall pattern changes continue to take shape through the country. As we have seen with the last couple of systems, temperatures have risen nicely ahead of the arrival of surface lows. As we go through the month of March, storm tracks will continue to shift north as snow cover is eroded in southern Wisconsin and northern Iowa. Looking at the latest run of the GFS model, next Thursday looks to feature highs in the middle 50s followed by lower 60s into the week of March 20th.

While this is still far off, climatology suggests that warm surges in mid March are not too uncommon. In fact, last year, we saw 9 days at or above 60 degrees.

As of 3/12 wrex is predicting temps next week into mid 60’s. All other Rockford area stations and national weather forecast shows highest temps only into the mid 50’s. Anybody know why wrex forecast is so much warmer? Thanks.
