Severe weather threat, just south on Wednesday

A vigorous area of low pressure will track from Kansas City to South Bend, Indiana on Wednesday. Ahead of the low, a warm front will set up from near Quincy to LaSalle to Aurora to Gary. Along this front and south there will be a threat of large hail, damaging wind, and even tornadoes. Immediately north of the front we may have a few storms elevated above a cool layer that could produce some hail up to golf-ball size. With the most recent models coming in, it appears even this threat will be south of the Rockford metro. I wouldn’t be surprised if our southern viewing area (Whiteside, Ogle, Lee, and DeKalb Cos.) get put under some sort of weather watch during the afternoon hours of Wednesday. As always, we’ll be tracking it. Updates will be posted here on the blog by Meteorologist Aaron Brackett in the morning. -ES
