Update 4:40pm-

Our atmospheric cap is starting to break and storms are already forming just West of I-39 and moving Northeast.  Our atmosphere is still prime to create storms that can produce damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes.   The storms will eventually become linear in shape.  They will be capable of producing damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall.  With a tornado watch in effect for the entire viewing area, it would be advised to have your severe weather plan on stand-by.

Update 2:40PM-

As our atmospheric cap erodes throughout the afternoon hours, our chances for strong to severe storms will increase.  We have created a prime atmosphere for supercellular thunderstorms for later this afternoon and into the early evening hours.  These storms will be capable for producing large hail and tornadoes.  During the evening hours, the storms are expected to become linear in shape.  This will be either a squall line or a bow echo.  Both storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall.  With a tornado watch in effect for the entire viewing area, it would be advised to have your severe weather plan on stand-by.  We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

Tornado Watch for Boone,  De Kalb, La Salle, Lee,  McHenry, Ogle, Winnebago  till 10:00 PM CDT
Tornado Watch for  Green, Rock, and Walworth, till 10:00 PM CDT
Tornado Watch for Jo Daviess, Carroll, Stephenson, Whiteside [IL] till 9:00 PM CDT
